Keep reading for an honest rant-turned-motivation-speech about involuntarily losing your agency job.
So, it happened. You lost your beloved job of 2 years, just like that. No warning, no preparation, but all of a sudden, any sense of stability you had got shoved into a box with the rest of your things. What do you do now? Well, here’s where I started on that fateful day.
Freak out.
Laugh. Funny joke boss.
Realize it’s not a joke. Oh shit.
Comfort coworkers as he breaks the news to them, too. You get to hear it all twice.
Consume alcohol with now former coworkers.
Go home.
Tell your boyfriend.
Tell him more.
Consume more alcohol with said boyfriend.
Once he’s asleep, crunch the numbers to figure out how long you can float with the money in your bank account.
Freak out again.
Take a deep breath.
Think. Think deeper. Slow down, maybe not that deep.
Feel like a failure for a few seconds. (Or days.)
Tell yourself it’s not your fault, it’s not your fault. Sometimes shit happens.
Remember that you still have the skills you always had, even if you’re not currently employed.
Realize that you worked as hard as you could. You did everything you could.
Tell yourself it’s going to be okay.
Tell yourself it’s going to be okay again.
Get excited about the possibility of a fresh start.
Commence the official job hunt.
Get rejected. Get upset.
Still, keep going.
For all of the career-in-crisis mode folks out there:
Remember that you can always begin again. And again.
